New features and improved usability in automated GUI test tool offer “taster” of full version.
A preview of version 1.1 of GUIdancer, the automated test tool for Java/Swing GUI’s is available for download. Both existing license holders and new customers are invited to download the preview, which contains a variety of new features. Testing using GUIdancer does not require any programming skills – maintainable, robust tests are easy to create and reuse. The full version 1.1, which will incorporate further feature developments, is ex-pected to be available in the autumn.
After an intensive development period, Bredex GmbH has released a preview of the upcoming version 1.1 of GUIdancer. The focus of this preview is on improved usability during test specification and execution. The 1.1 preview version includes features such as a command line client for batch testing and Ant Task support. New actions for components have been added to increase flexibility when specifying tests. The capacity to translate test data for multilingual testing has also been introduced, allowing testers to execute the same test in various languages, to easily test different language versions of an application. Context-sensitive help with test specification has been expanded and refined, and now offers direct access to details and instructions on using individual components and actions.
“The past few months have seen considerable developments for GUIdancer”, said Hans-J. Brede, Managing Director. “As well as improving the general usability of the tool, we’ve been working on offering more options for testers – batch testing, a larger choice of actions, and translation of test data for example. This preview is a taster of the full 1.1 version, for which yet more features are in development”.
Features of the full version, which is planned for release in autumn, include extensibility, execution of incomplete test suites and more supported actions. Hans-J. Brede added, “Our experiences to date have shown us that testing with GUIdancer does what we set out to achieve. Well-structured, complex tests can be specified, reused and maintained without the pitfalls people have come to associate with automated testing. This preview and the versions to come will continue in this vein to make testing with GUIdancer even easier and more cost-effective.”
