While still work in progress (as of 07/08 rel 0.9.5), this is very good plugin for maven development within Eclipse. Every release so far has been stable and it adds new functionality.

It´s better than other versions in the options that appears.. and tries to be friendly, but there are big problems, that this...
I have to return to my old version, because when i debug my projects the parent of all my threads has properties that i don`t select in the build path, and all the references are linking to the default output folder..

Potentially excellent, but has bugs which make it unusable for me.
- Sometimes doesnt recognize source and resource directories
- It insists on renaming the root project directory to the same name as the project artifact
- Cant figure out how to make it get sources for dependencies (i.e. like mvn eclipse:eclipse -DdownloadSources=true)
- have had problems running applications which are managed by this plugin

If you use Eclipse and Maven and are tired of keeping your Eclipse dependencies in sync with your Maven dependencies by hand, you need the Maven Integration for Eclipse plugin.

WTP integration needed!
|
| User: Anonymous | Rating: 8 | 2008-05-04 00:24:25 |

Plugin works as advertised. If you need maven integration, try it, but don't expect 1.0 quality yet. It's not designed yet to integrate with WTP or AJDT which have their own way of doing things, there are a number of nice-to-have features that aren't implemented yet, and there are some documented bugs. Since there is a competing project, you might be wary of subjective "comments" that are not based in fact.

This plugin does not have much competition - unfortunately - besides Q4E. It offers the basic maven2 functionality - but is not very reliable to say the least. It would be about time that the Eclipse platform offers decent maven2 integration, that works reliably ! After all, maven build functionality is a base need for nearly every java developer these days.

Very good for running goals and including external dependancies. But it could you some JFace based config to improve the editing of the internal structure of the POM's themselves (eg, tab for: a properties editor, the parent, etc). Use the IBM RSA Web/EJB/Server editors as a guide.

Works fine ! Dependency management works as expected. Some little stability issues but it's only version 0.9 so we can forgive them for now ;-) Standard maven goals (install, package, ...) included through "Run as" menu item.
It lacks an option to actually remove a depency (without manually editing the pom.xml file). I would also like a feature that adds new maven plugin goals in the "Run as" menu after adding a maven plugin trough the "Add plugin" feature.
For example, after adding the cargo maven plugin it would automatically add the "cargo:deploy" goal in the "Run as" menu.

The m2eclipse plugin have huge problems to behave:
* It wont respect settings from settings.xml, like <mirrors> or <localRepository>
* Search is limited to local repository and central (repo1.maven.org/maven2)
This pretty much make the plugin useless

The major drawback for his plugin is there is no way of overridding the use of the maven central repository. We have created our own and need this but it is in 99% of the cases ignored by the plugin. The only components found are the ones in the local cache or the ones not present on the maven central repository.

It does not work with eclipse ver. 3.3 in 3.2 you often need to disable, enable for it to work, the dependencies are only checked against biblio and not any extra repository in settings. Theres no goal build options, which means it needs to be run as an external tool. Overall it does NOTHING but fix classpath

This plugin works ok for the simple use cases but mostly falls short on a few points in the real world:
- It cannot access repositories using a proxy (even if the configuration works fine on the command line)
- The maven launcher cannot be stopped
- No integration that I could see to clean / install from eclipse (I heard of people creatin Ant scripts wrapping mvn commands to launche builds from within Eclipse)
- Cannot make out dependencies within profiles, you have to manually fix your .classpath file to achieve a "no-problem" status within Eclipse.
I really hope it will get some more love, it's only half there for now.

Dependencies on JDK vs JRE should be clear in the install path. This should either be fixed, or labeled more clearly. I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out why this plugin was not working. Eventually I installed the JDK, then added tools.jar to the JDK definition to get it to work - somewhat. Still having issues based on my Eclipse environment.

I used it starting at version 0.0.5, where it was very buggy. But at least since version 0.0.10 it is a must have, if you develop maven2 apps from eclipse.
My remaining major open issue in version 0.0.10 is that the "~/.m2/settings.xml" is not evaluated always correctly, so be carefully using the embedded m2-executor from run-menu.

Like many open-source projects, poor documentation infects this project. It is usable. That gets a 3 from me. My Eclipse environment is more important to me than my use of Maven, per se. So, I added another 2 points for that. Finally, I gave another point because it is being developed.
To become a 7, the response to open issues would need to be improved. To become an 8, the documentation would need to be improved.

It seems to have problems to build while the same pom straight from the command will build. I'm not alone with this problem, there is at least someone else: http://www.mail-archive.com/users@maven.apache.org/msg62848.html

Where the heck is the source dependency integration - one where a multiple module project can be debugged in Eclipse without exporting all sources in a jar? Documentation is pathetic and typical thiings needed by a user - one who goes beyond a tiny one module project are missing.

seems to be broken recently, you cannot even set the maven local repository.

Very poor. Basic functionality fails, such as the ability to parse pom plugin configurations. I've traced down the problems, and they are caused by the maven embedder, which is bundled in the plugin. What is this embedder? How is it built? Where does it live, and who has accountability for it? When is the next release? No information exists.
I tried plugging in a new version of the Maven embedder -- found with difficulty -- into the plugin, but some classes required by the 0.0.10 plugin release, released only a few weeks ago, are no longer present in the embedder and so everything fails to work. Anybody ever hear of deprecation?
I'm trying to roll out a medium-large development effort, with thousands of existing classes across dozens of code modules, using maven 2 and eclipse 3.2, to a Fortune 1000 business. I have enough problems to contend with without having to try to correct basic defects in the tools I require for this effort.

Very nice plugin for Maven 2 integration in Eclipse. There are few issues with it, many time it fails to add the dependencies from pom.xml properly. Also does not take source files and target build directory information from pom.xml.

The plugin has nice ideas on how to integrate the maven lifecycle und dependency mechanism in eclipse. The implementation is still buggy and unstable, I'm still feverishing a stable release!

Promising, but many bugs still. I hope the next version is more usable, especially for multi-module projects.

Poorly documented, destroys its own dependency index in a matter of minutes, never able to run goals from eclipse

Inter-module dependencies are created as JAR dependencies.
