I found a few useful solutions for my RCP in the sources. It is too early to rate this RCP as an Office app but I recommend it as an GMF example.

Looks promising (screenshots)! Is the project in a stage to try it out by myself? What's the best way to install it?

It worked fine for me. I used Eclipse 3.4 M7 Ganymed + GMF (latest version). It looks as if Eclipse Office combines GEF and SWT. But how do they do that???

The plugins cannot be installed. Eclipse reported that "no features found on the selected site(s). Reason: Invalid signature file digest for Manifest main attributes". Moreover, file "plugin.xml" and folder "META-INF" are not found!
