Note that I also experience the "blinking" eclipse if I am currently spell checking a document, and I decide to do something else (like rename a parameter) before stopping the spell checker.
I'd also comment that it would actually be much more useful if you could right-click on a package (or file) in the package explorer and get it to spell-check the item selected.

I also wish for better keyboard suport so that I do not have to use the mouse to spell words.
