Maven Integration for Eclipse provides tight integration for Maven into the IDE. Maven-based dependency management for Java projects, automatic downloading of required dependencies and sources, quick search in remote Maven repositories, launching Maven from within Eclipse, creating new projects using Maven archetypes, materializing projects using Maven metadata and more.

See more details in project wiki.

See Eclipse Integration page for comparison with other tools.

If you use Eclipse and Maven and are tired of keeping your Eclipse dependencies in sync with your Maven dependencies by hand, you need the Maven Integration for Eclipse plugin.

when will version 0.9.4 be available through the update (according to the bugtracker it's release date was the 4th of may...)? since this seems to finally fix the wtp integration bugs

WTP integration needed!

Plugin works as advertised. If you need maven integration, try it, but don't expect 1.0 quality yet. It's not designed yet to integrate with WTP or AJDT which have their own way of doing things, there are a number of nice-to-have features that aren't implemented yet, and there are some documented bugs. Since there is a competing project, you might be wary of subjective "comments" that are not based in fact.

Poor integration with WTP and AspectJ projects.

Excellent and getting better.

This plugin does not have much competition - unfortunately - besides Q4E. It offers the basic maven2 functionality - but is not very reliable to say the least. It would be about time that the Eclipse platform offers decent maven2 integration, that works reliably ! After all, maven build functionality is a base need for nearly every java developer these days.
