TOPCASED (Toolkit in OPen source for Critical Applications and SystEm Development) is a system/software engineering workshop based on Eclipse. It aims to provide the tools required to go from requirements to the implementation stages. This first major version includes several graphical editors: ECORE, UML 2, SysML, structured analysis (SAM), and AADL (Architecture Analysis and Design Language). These editors are partially generated from ECORE models using TOPCASED generation feature and models can be checked (OCL and EMF checks are supported at this time). Some code generators are also being integrated : UML2C (for static structure), SMUC (for dynamic part), UML2Java, UML2Python and a Java2UML retro-engineering feature. A document generztor is also included. A traceability component (Tramway) is part of the Topcased Toolkit feature as well a Change management component (gPM). One more thing about the Subclipse component which is recommended as the tool for change management. A VHDL IDE tool is also added including some coding rules checking.
External tools can be easily connected to the workshop thanks to a simple communication bus. An administration tool can help user to deploy all plugins.
Coming tools are : model verification engines, Simulation engine for UML ... Added on: 17-Oct-2005 | Updated: 11-Mar-2008

Plan to get involved, though a novice.

There are some usability issues - to provide context menus containing actions for creating sub elements, clean up the palette, provide an easy way for changing the connections type for the whole plugin...
Still - the best I have tried so far! Keep up the good work :)

Concept and a way it is realized is excellent.
Walk this way!
One minor note: There will be no space for commercial tools at the modeling field.

backed by EADS and other companies interested in practical tools for modeling of complex softwares.
