The Metadata Transformer/Generator is a general purpose tool used for model transformation and output generation. It uses Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) Core models (Ecore models) or any other models created using EMF (such as UML2) as its input, which it transforms using specialized Java classes called transformers . The output from the transformers is then used to create new files of different types, or to modify or be merged with existing files.
MTG's main application is code generation. The unique architecture and capabilities of MTG allow it to generate code from different Eclipse (EMF based) tools and from XML Schemas.
