Eclipse does not allow to split editor and view different parts of the same file. Edit Preview plugin allows you to view a copy of the file opened in active editor. Edit Preview is a "View", not the full editor, as result you have read-only access to the file.
Plugin works with both v2.1 and v3.0 of Eclipse
