DITAworks is an Eclipse-based software solution that provides integrated tooling for modeling, creation, administration and publishing of complex documentation according to single source principles. The solution is designed around DITA architecture. Media-independent and topic-oriented content ensures high potential of re-usability, flexible publishing and integration with third party systems.

DITAworks facilitates integration of documentation development into software development process and Eclipse environment by

  • Native support of Eclipse Help format as one of the publishing formats
  • Integration of documentation tool into development workbench
  • Documentation source topics can be managed using the same version control system as the developed software.

Using DITAworks you can now generate Eclipse help, PDF, HTML and other documentation from single XML source. Building of Documentation can be a part of product build procecedure.

DITAworks helps to create and manage complex content. High usability of the editors (XML/WYSIWYG), contextual support of content creation, smart and easy usage of conref references and automated validation and correction functions are important features that help you to focus on content work. Here are major features from authoring domain:
  • Content Import
  • Structual project rules
  • Visual editors for DITA topics and maps

  • Reuse block management
  • Tag management
  • Versioning
  • Collaboration
  • Access to image library from editor

DITAworks ensures organized team work for documentation development. The solution supports concurrent real-time access of several users to all data including version control, history, change comparison and roll-back. Even widely distributed project teams can collaborate online and offline in one working process.

The tool enables integration of external editors and translators. In this way you can react to growing demand and increase your productivity by following an agile approach.

Task-Management using Mylyn provides you with the capabilities of delegating tasks in context with their related resources and controlling your documentation processes. Main features are:

  • Task delegation
  • Parallel, distributed team work
  • Offline work by check-out and check-in of contents

DITAworks publishes modular documentation in various target formats (i.e. XHTML, PDF, RTF, EclipseHelp, JavaHelp, troff, DocBook) and 3rd party systems by click. These possibilities are provided by seamless integration of DITA Open Toolkit. The documentation publishing process can be linked with the software build process using special Ant tasks.

Comprehensive modeling features allow the definition of project-specific, DITA based documentation models (DITA specializations). The solution is not limited to determining the information models, but also contains the rules for adapting them to individual needs.
Modeling Features:

  • Visual DITA Modeling Editor
  • Import and Export of DITA Specializations from and to 3rd party tools and systems
  • Work with Templates for DITA Maps and Topics
  • Controlled model adaptations during Documentation Life Cycle
