Proximity Alert is open-source software visualization and evaluation plug-in for the Eclipse framework, it provides a deep analysis of the entities on a given Java Project and gives to each of them and proximity alert value based on the class and package metrics. It provides : Classes and Packages Analysis View,Configuration View and a scratch of the future Proximity Alert Plot View (under construction)
This plug-in contributes with open-source plug-in X-Ray. Please notice Installation instruction directly for the official page.
Classes Analysis and Package Analysis View:
Description for each class and package is represented in a table and shows all the current available metrics (additional metrics will be added in the next release) and shows with different type of color the proximity alert level given a basic formula which could be customized...in future it will be possible to define your own Proximity Alert formula.
Configuration View:
This View allows user to have general information about the project just analyzed and to modify the analysis of the entities by customizing the calculation and the metrics taken into account. Is possible also to filter entities and metrics in order to exclude them from the analysis. The result are showed dynamically.
In the next release it will also possible to customize directly the formula used to calculate the Proximity Alert level and define also your own metrics.
Version 1.0.1 provides:
- Fast Analisys with scroll-bar
- Classes/Packages Analysis View and Configuration View
- Dynamic results
- Scratch Proximity Alert Plot View
The plug-in is still a beta, and it also has limited functionalities, but they will grow soon. Feel free to contact me for any reason (information, bugs, requests, ..) Added on: 31-Mar-2008 | Updated: 16-May-2008

lot of work needs to be done, but it is promising. (work on the scalability!)

I have to say that it is promising, you just need more documentation! I found myself lost while understanding the meaning of the visualizations (the tables..)
Also it would be nice to use the same model instance for both the plug-ins, instead creating it twice, one for plug-in. Anyway, I think that this is something that I'll suggest to malnati.
Nice work anyway
