This report takes a medium-depth look at the incremental build process, the tools most commonly used, and the productivity differences between them, according to the responses of over 600 Java developers. Among other results, it was interesting to find that Java developers are spending between 60 and 260 hours per year on the incremental build process time that could be spent coding new features or improving code quality. Eclipse's Compile on Save feature helps bring users to the low end of that range, but only 20% of respondents are using it.
