Posted by: Anonymous - on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 09:38 AM

Hamburg, Germany - 2007-12-18 froglogic GmbH today announced
version 3.3 of the leading, cross-platform automated GUI testing tool
Squish. Squish supports creating and running automated GUI tests of
applications based on many user interface technologies including
Trolltech's Qt, Java AWT/Swing/NetBeans, Java SWT/Eclipse RCP,
Web/HTML/AJAX and Mac OS X Carbon/Cocoa. Squish is being successfully
used in QA departments across the world in companies such as Reuters
Financial Software, EADS, Siemens, Synopsys, Xilinx, Trolltech and
France Telecom Group.

Squish offers a versatile testing framework with a choice of popular
test scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, Tcl and Perl) extended
by test-specific functions, open interfaces, add-ons, integrations
into test management systems, an IDE that supports the creation and
debugging of tests and a set of command line tools facilitating fully
automated test runs.

One of Squish 3.3's main new features is cross-technology
support. While previous Squish versions worked exclusively on one
specific GUI technology, Squish 3.3 allows to automate tests of hybrid
GUI applications. For example, Squish tests can automate Win32
Active-X controls embedded in Qt applications, Java applets, Flash, or
Active-X components embedded in a web application or mixed Java
Swing/AWT and SWT/Eclipse RCP applications.

Other new features include dedicated support for interacting with Eclipse
GEF views (Squish for Java) and QGraphicsView widgets (Squish for Qt),
support for testing Mac OS X Carbon/Cocoa GUI applications, an
integration into the Eclipse TPTP Framework and several improvements
to improve Squish's ease of use and test maintenance.

BREDEX GmbH announces release for GUIdancer 2.0 as winter 2007

Posted by: Anonymous - on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 11:15 AM

Bredex GmbH has announced that version 2.0 of GUIdancer, the automated GUI test tool, will be released towards the end of this year. The tool has been extended to cover RCP, SWT and HTML applications as well as Swing. Tests for these toolkits are created without programming, scripts or code. Specification of flexible, reusable tests can begin before the application is ready and can keep up with frequent iterations – making GUIdancer particularly well-suited to test-driven-development and agile processes. GUIdancer runs as a standalone application or as an Eclipse plugin.

GUIdancer is expanding. Now in its second year on the market, the upcoming release of the Eclipse-based tool supports testing on Java (Swing, SWT, RCP) and HTML applica-tions. The new release, scheduled for December 2007 is a cost-effective way of testing GUI applications.

“Our recent experiences at the Eclipse Summit really reinforced the value of GUIdancer in modern development processes” explained Hans-J. Brede, Managing Director. “Specifically, GUIdancer offers a unique advantage in agile processes because tests are easy to specify yet do not require the application under test to be ready. Test creation begins early and continues alongside development”.

Tests with GUIdancer can be created early and reused extensively. Project experience has shown that maintenance efforts are minimum, even after changes in the GUI of an application. Based on a “building-block” approach, tests are conceptually easy to create, but powerful in action. No details must be “hard-coded” in tests – GUIdancer has a “one test fits all” approach whereby a single specification can be used to test an application with different data, languages, components and even implementations with different toolkits.

Hans-J. Brede stressed the importance of early and continuous testing: “We are of the opinion that test-driven-development is also possible for GUI tests. There is everything to be gained by testing early and often, and GUIdancer is the only tool for the job”.

For an example flash-demo showing how one test can be reused, visit:
http://www.bredex.de/en/guidancer/downloads.html and select the “one test fits all” demo.

BREDEX GmbH

Since 1987, BREDEX GmbH has been providing high quality information technology services in the areas of consultancy, analysis and design, software development and training. Based in Braunschweig, the company has a history of long term customer satisfaction and a focus on forward thinking, developing individual solutions that bring future standards to current project needs. BREDEX sells GUIdancer, which is a powerful and cost effective automatic test tool for java applications.

Build and Deploy your own Service-Oriented Application with PHP and ActiveBPEL

Posted by: shriharshb - on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 09:56 AM

SOA and WS-BPEL is a new book from Packt that helps users to compose Service-Oriented Architecture Solutions with PHP and Open-Source ActiveBPEL. Written by experience author Yuli Vasiliev this practical book explains in extensive detail how to build Web Services with PHP and then utilize them within WS-BPEL orchestrations deployed to the ActiveBPEL engine.

When Utilized within a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Web Services are part of a business process determining the logical order of service activities – logical units of work performed by one or more services.

Today, the most popular tool for organizing service activities into business processes is Web Services Business Process Execution Language (WS-BPEL), a language defining an execution format for business processes operating on Web Services. While it is not a trivial task to define a business process definition with WS-BPEL from scratch, using a graphical WS-BPEL tool can significantly simplify this process.

Examples and practice are much more valuable than theory when it comes to building applications using specific development tools. Unlike many other books on SOA in the market, this book is not focused on architecture. Instead, through numerous examples, it discusses practical aspects of SOA and WS-BPEL development, showing you how to apply architecture in practice with the help of PHP, ActiveBPEL open-source engine, and ActiveBPEL Designer – powerful development tools available for free.

With the help of many examples, the book explains how to build Web Services with PHP, combine them into SOAs with WS-BPEL, and then deploy composite WS-BPEL-based solutions to the ActiveBPEL engine. The examples in this book are presented in a way that anyone can understand and apply.

This book is suitable for anyone who wants to start building SOA applications using powerful tools available free of charge. It will also be useful for PHP developers willing to move towards Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Readers need only a basic knowledge of SOA, BPEL, and Web Services; even a total beginner will be able to follow the examples, provided the required software components are installed on his or her computer. More experienced readers might use this book as a reference, focusing only on the chapters of interest. For more information please visit SOA and WS-BPEL
